Forty meters from the sea
Stands an awkward man in black clothing
In his defeated hand
He grips a bouquet of prickly white roses
Tightly; the blood from his hand dirties his white cuff
The expression on his face is one of triumph
And yet his aura screams sorrowfully
If you walk up close enough to him
You can make out a piece of paper
A list of names unread; a checkbook of horrors
He does not speak, but merely drifts
Not walking, not moving
But he is not standing still
Could he be floating?
I am the only one who knows
Where he stands, he crushed a sandcastle
It was mine
He wanted me to weep, but
It was a structure of little importance to me
I was only four
I did not build it
I found it
So when it fell, I did not cry
When the sun went down, suddenly
There was a deafening boom
His roses grew thorns; he began to bleed as you see him now
I am looking to build again someday
But before I do, I wish to read his list
I need to know their names
And I am willing to wait
Until roses consume him
